In 2nd grade, our students truly begin to find their voices. This is a year characterized by a leap in reading confidence, a deeper dive into mathematical logic, and an exploration of the world around us. We focus on moving from simple facts to asking the "why" and "how" behind everything we do.

Our curriculum is designed to challenge students while providing the support they need to master new concepts.

• Literacy & Writing: We transition into longer chapter books and focus on reading comprehension. In writing, students move from simple paragraphs to writing narrative stories, informative reports, and persuasive essays with clear supporting details.

• Mathematics: This is a big year for numbers! We master double-digit addition and subtraction (with regrouping), dive into the world of Place Value up to 1,000, and get a head start on the foundations of multiplication through arrays.

• Science: We investigate the properties of matter, explore how the Earth changes through erosion and volcanoes, and study the fascinating biodiversity of different habitats.

• Social Studies: We focus on "The Power of Community." Students learn about local government, economics (wants vs. needs), and how historical figures have shaped our world today.
